Automatic Storage & Retrieval System (ASRS) buildings with their narrower aisles and taller racks require a special type of concrete floor design to handle the weight and height as well as the automated forklift equipment.

Typically, to try and achieve the essential durability for ASRS, contractors have had limited options, such as thicker slabs and double rebar reinforcement, low water-to-cement ratio to reduce shrinkage, etc. Essentially these do help to create a concrete floor that can take the weight, but there’s the added time to creating that slab, and there’s too short of a life to consider as well.
